Hind In a tribute to the late George Wilson Hind (PJ, January 15, p92), Mr K. H. SWANSON writes: For many years I was a colleague of George Hind at E. A. Brocklehurst Ltd and I valued his friendship and professional advice. George served his apprenticeship with Messrs Spillman in East Hull and worked for a period with Metcalf Pharmacy in East Hull before joining E. A. Brocklehurst. During the 1939-45 war, he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps. On demobilisation he returned to E. A. Brocklehurst, where he became a director and he eventually retired in 1976. He continued to carry out locum work in the Hull area until 1989.
George Hind was a member of the Hull Chemists' Association. He served on the committee for many years and was president in 1954-55. For a long time he was also secretary of the local pharmaceutical committee and he represented, with dedication, the interests of pharmacists in the Hull area.
Mr RAY STYLES writes: The pharmacy community of Hull and East Riding has lost a very valued member and one who will always be remembered for his true professionalism, dignity and integrity, which was coupled with a charm and wit that made him so endearing to us all.
George loved travel both at home and abroad. In his youth, he spent his holidays climbing in the Alps, and he celebrated his 80th birthday by travelling with his wife Muriel to New Zealand, where they stayed a month with an ex-colleague from E. A. Brocklehurst Ltd, the late Jack Biltcliffe.
All his life he was a keen member of the Methodist church. He was married to Muriel in 1948 at Willerby Methodist church by his father, assisted by his brother Rev Clifford Hind. George served as a local preacher and held nearly every office at the Anlaby Park Methodist church.
George was an active member of the Hull Probus club, where he was on the committee and served a year as chairman.
He enjoyed a wonderful partnership with Muriel: they perfectly complemented each other. His quick wit and cheerful humour will be sadly missed by all his friends. Our thoughts go out to Muriel and their sons Stephen and David and their families.
George was a very special person and my wife Rita and I feel that we have been very privileged to have known him.
