Novartis Consumer Health has launched Tixycolds, a range of three products for relieving stuffy and blocked noses in children with colds, 'flu, catarrh and sinusitis. Tixycolds syrup (diphenhydramine hydrochloride 12.5mg/5ml, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 22.5mg/5ml) is a pharmacy only medicine and is recommended for children aged one year and older (retail price, 100ml £2.89). The syrup has a blackcurrant flavour. It is contraindicated in children with hypersensitivity, cardiovascular disease and in those taking MAOIs either concurrently or in the previous 14 days. Tixycolds cold and allergy nasal drops (xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.05 per cent w/v) (retail price, 10ml £2.39) and Tixycolds cold and hayfever inhalant capsules (menthol 25mg, eucalyptus oil 20mg, camphor 60mg and turpentine oil 50mg) (retail price, 10 £2.09) are both general sale list medicines and can be used from the age of three months upwards. The company says that advice from a doctor is required for using the nasal drops in infants under the age of two years. Novartis Consumer Health has also launched Tixylix baby syrup (glycerol 0.75ml/5ml) for the relief of dry tickly coughs (retail price, 100ml £2.89). The product is recommended for children aged three months to five years, says the company.
