PJOnline update

Searching for meetings information

An occasional feature to bring readers up to date with developments in PJOnline, the website version of The Pharmaceutical Journal, and to answer common questions about the service. PJOnline is available on the internet at www.pharmj.com

Every week the Notice-Board pages of The Journal list forthcoming events of interest to pharmacists in addition to the diary of the following week's meetings organised by the Society and its branches.
A full list of all these meetings is now available via the PJOnline website at www.pharmj.com. The database is accessed by simply clicking on the "Events" button on the bottom menu of the PJOnline home page.

Searching the events database Searching the database is simple. A broad search can be made on subject matter by entering a relevant word or phrase in the search box and clicking the submit search button. For example, entering the term "primary care" will retrieve a list of branch meetings and other events concerning primary care.
The search can be limited to retrieve only branch meetings, or to exclude branch meetings by selecting the relevant check box. Searches can also be limited to meetings organised by a particular branch or other organisation, by entering the name of the branch or organisation in the appropriate search box. It is also possible to specify a date or range of dates of interest, or to browse all the events listed by selecting the month in which they are due to take place; the events are listed in chronological order.

Expanding the service PJOnline hopes that this feature will become one of the most popular areas of the site. Unlike the printed Journal, PJOnline has no space limitations and so details of meetings can be displayed for many months in advance. Alterations, such as a change of venue or speaker, can be made almost immediately. Branch secretaries are welcome to send in details of all forthcoming meetings for addition to the database. Information should be addressed in writing to the Editor, The Pharmaceutical Journal, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN (fax 020 7582 7327; e-mail editor@pharmj.org.uk).
