Practice research awards

THE Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has two research awards available to members. The Galen award is worth up to £10,000 and the Sir Hugh Linstead fellowship is worth up to a maximum of £15,000.
Applications may be made for a Galen award to support a project or investigation into any aspect of pharmacy practice. For the Linstead fellowship, the principal objective of any proposed research project must be the development of some aspect of community pharmacy services.
There is no restriction on the topic for proposed investigation in either award, but, in the light of the results of the Pharmacy in a New Age: The New Horizon agenda for action, projects in the following broad areas of practice will be particularly welcomed: the management of prescribed medicines, the management of chronic conditions, the management of common ailments, and the promotion and support of healthy lifestyles.
Wherever possible, but in line with the regulations governing the awards, applicants are encouraged to complete parallel applications for both awards.
Applications may be made by any pharmacist whose name appears in the Register of Pharmaceutical Chemists. Applications are particularly sought from pharmacists in practice.
Further details, application forms and notes for guidance are available from Ms Miriam Harris, Practice Research Manager, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN (tel 020 7735 9141 ext 406, e-mail mharris@rpsgb.org. uk).
The closing date for applications is July 3 and interviews will be held on August 17.
