"Probiotic" protection?

Swedish researchers are said to be investigating the potential clinical benefits of impregnating women's hygiene products, such as tampons and sanitary towels, with Lactobacillus plantarum. A strain has been discovered that inhibits the growth of bacteria and yeasts that cause vaginal and urinary tract infection (New Scientist 2000, February 12, p14).
