Impotence and lipid lowering drugs

All commonly used statins and fibrates may cause erectile dysfunction, researchers from the University of Wales college of medicine suggested last week at the American College of Cardiology conference. From a review of the published literature, researchers identified 10 reports describing 57 cases of impotence with these drugs, and they said that another 163 cases had been reported to the Committee on Safety of Medicines on yellow cards. "Documented recovery after cessation was reported in some, supporting a causal effect," they said. The method of data collection does not allow any calculation of incidence or prevalence rates.

We stated that researchers from the University of Wales presented their findings at the American College of Cardiology conference. This should have read the British Society of Endocrinology conference.
