Martindale editor may not be a pharmacist

For the first time in its 117-year history, Martindale could have an editor who is not a pharmacist. In its advertisement for the post, which has been vacant for nine months, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society says that the new editor may be either a pharmacist or a clinical pharmacologist. The Society is looking for candidates who are innovative thinkers and who have excellent pharmaceutical knowledge, at least 10 years' editorial experience of working on clinical information products, a good understanding of electronic publishing and database technologies, and a successful record of managing expert teams. The maximum annual salary on offer is just under £50,000.
The editorship has been vacant since Mrs Kathleen Parfitt, FRPharmS, retired at the end of June last year (PJ, July 3, 1999, p13). Mr Sean Sweetman (senior assistant editor) has been in charge since then.
Further information about the post can be obtained from the Society's human resources division (tel 020 7820 3383; e-mail hr@rpsgb.org.uk). The closing date for applications is March 31.
