Pharmacy technicians

Their regulation is our province

From Mr A. G. Hopkins, MRPharmS

SIR,-Some 30 years ago, when I was a group chief pharmacist in the Oxford regional hospital board, I approached my friend, who was head of sciences at the prestigious local technical college, to start up a course for training dispensing technicians.
He in his wisdom approached the then Pharmaceutical Society and was amazed to find out that the Society had no input into the training of dispensers, that it was controlled by the Society of Apothecaries.
I beg those who may be in positions of authority not to let the training and regulation of pharmacy technicians once again be given to other outside bodies such as nurses or the Society of Apothecaries. After all, it is our province.
