No smoking day

Every week?

From Mr M. A. Waldman, MRPharmS

SIR,-Many people cannot bear smoke. I was in a public house recently and I asked the landlord why he did not have a no-smoking day every week. He said that he would lose too much business.
Inside some airports in the UK there are pubs that are no-smoking in the lounge area, with smokers only outside the lounge. The lounge area is always busier.
Perhaps our next campaign could be to have a fixed "national no-smoking day" but for every week in every restaurant and public house. Perhaps their quietest day would be an encouragement. I believe that the owners would be delighted if they were more busy on no-smoking day, and if this were so, perhaps this would be the way forward to a total ban in such places.
