The National Pharmaceutical Association and the National Association of Primary Care are to hold two joint seminars "Playing to our strengths: securing the future of primary care" arising from the national service framework for coronary heart disease and stroke (PJ, March 11, p396).
In a press statement on April 4, the NPA said that the seminars, to be held in London on May 11 and Manchester on June 7 (places cost £40), would examine the challenges facing primary care in the management of CHD and opportunities for joint working between community pharmacists and general medical practitioners in education and awareness of the disease, early identification of symptoms and the treatment of established CHD. The meetings would set out a multiprofessional approach to the NSF's recommendations and suggest practical steps for local action. They would also describe current experiences of joint working and explore ways in which pharmacists' skills could be used to complement those of other primary care professionals.
Speakers include the newly appointed national director for heart disease (Dr Roger Boyle), Mr Clive Jackson (director, National Prescribing Centre), Mr Roy Lilley (writer and broadcaster) and Ms Anne-Toni Rogers (communications director, NICE).
