Mr Ashwin Tanna, MRPharmS, has formally announced his candidacy to become the first elected mayor of London, having achieved nomination for the May 4 election. Mr Tanna told The Journal on April 4 that Londoners should not be duped by egotistical politicians or entertainers standing as candidates. They should support someone who would bring integrity, stability and business acumen to the post.

Mr Tanna stood as an independent candidate in London's local council elections in 1998. Although he came fourth in his area, he polled more votes than local Conservative, Liberal Democrat or Green party candidates.
