For the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, the recommended dosage is 5mg once a day. For the treatment and prevention of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in postmenopausal women not receiving hormone replacement therapy with an oestrogen, the recommended dosage is 10mg once a day. For other patients (ie men, premenopausal women and postmenopausal women receiving HRT with an oestrogen) the recommended dosage is 5mg once a day.
