In a week when reality was being re-introduced to the price of shares in internet companies, a new survey has revealed that almost nine out of 10 patients have never used the internet to find information about their illness.
A survey conducted by National Opinion Polls for Druid, an internet management consultancy company, found that 89 per cent of the 1,002 adults interviewed had never used the internet as a source of information when they or family members were ill. When asked about their worries about buying medicines directly over the internet, 42 per cent were concerned that they would wrongly diagnose themselves and would take the wrong drugs. A further 39 per cent were concerned about children getting hold of medicines too easily.
