Phoenix Pharmahandel AG, which owns a number of regional wholesaling businesses in the United Kingdom, has moved into the Nordic market by acquiring a 33 per cent stake in the Finnish pharmaceutical wholesaler, Tamro.
According to Dr Bernard Scheifele (chief executive, Phoenix), Tamro is the leading wholesaler in Finland, Denmark and Sweden with average market shares of around 60 per cent. It also trades in Norway and the Baltic states. He added that, through its share in Tamro, Phoenix had become the second largest European wholesaler, with a 21.5 per cent share of the market.
