Call to improve demographic data

More accurate demographic information is needed if the impact of social change on the professions is to be understood. That is one of the conclusions of a review paper in the latest issue of the International Journal of Pharmacy Practice. In particular, the author (Dr Karen Hassell, Manchester university) concludes that more detailed information is needed on the extent and sector of employment of women pharmacists if the impact of feminisation of the workforce is to be forecast.
Other papers in the March, 2000, issue of the IJPP include a consideration of methods used to evaluate pharmaceutical services, and reports on part-time pharmacy work, the appropriateness and cost-effectiveness of prescribing, patients' understanding of medicines and drug-related problems experienced by elderly people in the Caribbean
