Poor medicines trade figures expected

The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry is expected to announce a drop in Britain's trade surplus in pharmaceuticals for only the second time in 18 years. After year-on-year growth ever year since 1981, other than in 1987, the ABPI will announce disappointing figures on April 25.
"These figures will add fresh impetus to the need for the task force, announced recently, that is to recommend action to the Prime Minister on how to strengthen the competitiveness of the United Kingdom business environment for the pharmaceutical industry," the ABPI said on April 10.
