Pharmacist named as "unsung hero"

A south London community pharmacist, Mr Samji Halai, has been nominated as a Daily Mail unsung hero of the National Health Service.
He was nominated by one of his patients, Mrs Doreen Johnson. She told the newspaper: "He won everyone over with his patience and the fact that nothing seems too much trouble for him. The elderly, in particular, have enormous faith in him. He is more than a pharmacist, he is an adviser and a friend. He starts at 8am, closes at 7pm and after that he delivers oxygen and medicines to the homes of patients who cannot get out."
Mr Halai commented: "A pharmacist's job is not only dishing out the doctor's prescriptions. I think it is good to be able to share a joke with people. Laughter is a wonderful medicine, often as effective as the prescriptions I deal with every day."
