Biographies of candidates for election

We have been supplied with the following biographies of candidates for election to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Scottish Department Executive. There are six vacancies. Voting papers have been issued and must be returned by 4pm on June 7

Mrs Dot Anderson, BSc (Hons), MSc, MRPharmS. Staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacy, Bangour General hospital, 1977-79. Principal pharmacist, Lothian area drug information service, 1979-93. Chairman, Lothian branch of Guild of Hospital Pharmacists, 1981-82. Assistant director, Scottish Pharmacy Practice Centre, 1993-95. Director, dental practice division, Common Services Agency, 1995-97. Director, pharmacy practice division, CSA 1997-1999. Honorary lecturer, Strathclyde university, 1982-97. Member of chemistry, pharmacy and standards subcommittee of Committee on Safety of Medicines 1993-96.

Mr George Downie, MSc, FRPharmS, of Aberdeen, registered in 1967. Medicines unit manager, Grampian Primary Care NHS trust. Member of Society's Scottish Executive. Chairman of Grampian area pharmaceutical committee. Past chairman of Society's Aberdeen and North Eastern Scottish branch. Member of National Pharmaceutical Advisory Committee 1977-90 and vice-chairman 1990-94. Chaired several Scottish Office working groups. Winner of the following awards to develop pharmacy initiatives: Leo, Geistlich Chester, Travenol, Evans, Seton and DBL.

Mr David Forbes, MRPharmS, of Banchory. Community pharmacist, qualified Robert Gordon university, Aberdeen, 1969. Worked short time in Boots then owned own pharmacy in Banchory, 1972-99. Past chairman of Society's Aberdeen branch, 1985-87. Treasurer, organising committee of Aberdeen British Pharmaceutical Conference 1988. Past member of executive of Society's Scottish Department. Member of executive of Scottish Pharmaceutical Federation 1988-99. Member of standing committee of Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council 1991-99. Member of Aberdeen area chemists contractors committee since 1988 and chairman 1990-99.

Dr Steven Kayne, PhD, MBA, LLM, DAgVetPharm, FRPharmS, FCPP. After qualifying in 1967 and completing a PhD at Strathclyde, joined a community pharmacy in Glasgow, eventually becoming a proprietor of two pharmacies in the city, one specialising in complementary medicine. Currently a member of several Government and professional expert advisory bodies, including advisory panels of the Committee on Safety of Medicines and the Medicines Control Agency. Visiting lecturer (Strathclyde) and member of local area pharmaceutical committee. Awarded the inaugural fellowship of the College of Pharmacy Practice (1998) and a Royal Pharmaceutical Society fellowship (1999).

Mr Edward J. H. Mallinson, LIM, FRPharmS, FIMgt, FRSH, of Bothwell, registered in 1973. Specialist in pharmaceutical public health, Lanarkshire health board; formerly district pharmaceutical officer, Tayside health board (Perth and Kinross district), 1978-83. Secretary and treasurer, Society's Lanarkshire branch, since 1984; former secretary, Society's Dundee and Eastern Scottish branch (1978-83); former social secretary (1974-77) and secretary (1978), Society's Bradford branch. Treasurer to the British Pharmaceutical Conference (Glasgow) in 1996. Society's nominee member of the National Appeal Panel for the Entry to Pharmaceutical Lists in Scotland since 1987.

Mrs Fiona J. McMillan (née Davidson), BSc (Hons), MRPharmS, MSc, MBA, MCPP (Adv). BSc (Hons), Strathclyde university, 1986; preregistration trainee (1986-87) and basic grade pharmacist (1987-89), Southern General hospital, Glasgow; clinical services manager, Monklands District General hospital, Lanarkshire (1990-93). Currently principal pharmacist, Glasgow Royal infirmary, Glasgow. MSc (clinical pharmacy), Strathclyde university, (1989). Member of College of Pharmacy Practice (1991). Scottish Centre for Post Qualification Pharmaceutical Education tutor, Lanarkshire, 1991-93. Accredited tutor, Strathclyde university, 1992-96. Master in business administration, Glasgow Caledonian university, 1995. Advanced Award of the College of Pharmacy Practice, 1998. Regional tutor for College of Pharmacy Practice since 1999. Committee member of Society's local branch 1993-94.

Miss Alison Jane Strath, MRPharmS, of Broughty Ferry, Dundee, registered in 1990. Community pharmacy contractor. Vice-chairman of Society's Scottish Executive 1998-2000 and member Scottish Executive since 1994. Vice-chairman, Tayside area pharmaceutical committee, and chairman of its primary care trust subcommittee. Secretary, Tayside pharmacy contractors committee. Pharmacist member of executive board, Dundee local health care co-operative. Chairman of Society's Dundee and Eastern Scottish branch 1998-2000. Society's representative on over-the-counter medicines pilot project and information technology transmission working groups. Previously, National Pharmaceutical Association community pharmacy development co-ordinator, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Scottish Centre for Post Qualification Pharmaceutical Education tutor, Tayside 1996-99, Lothian 1993-96.
