Boots the Chemists has published a response to the Government White Paper on public health "Saving lives: our healthier nation" (PJ, July 10, 1999, p40).
In a statement, Boots says that the response details the current contribution of community pharmacy to the Government's agenda on public health and calls for community pharmacists to be involved with primary care trusts so that the profession can make a strategic input to developing local health improvement plans.
"Community pharmacists make a vital contribution to the nation's health through close co-operation with health authorities, primary care groups and health action zones," said Boots's superintendent pharmacist (Mr Digby Emson). "Together, we are involved in a wide range of different local and national projects and schemes. These share the objective of improving access to health care. This response describes some of those schemes and suggests ways in which the contribution they make can be more effective in the future."
"Community pharmacy solutions for public health", is expected to be available from Boots's website at www.boots-plc.com.
