THE Statutory Committee will meet at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1, on Tuesday, May 16 at 10.15am to hear (1) an application for restoration from a person whose name has been removed from the register; and to hear (2) an inquiry into the case of a pharmacist convicted of possession of a Class B Controlled Drug with intent to supply.
The Statutory Committee will further meet on Wednesday, May 17, at 10.15am to hear (3) a resumed inquiry into a complaint by the Council of the Society against a pharmacist, which includes allegations that a failure to comply with an undertaking given to the Society and failures within procedures and systems at the pharmacy amount to misconduct. In November, 1998, after finding misconduct proved against the pharmacist, the Committee adjourned the inquiry until April, 1999. The resumed inquiry was then again adjourned for a further 12 months. The Committee will also hear (4) an inquiry into a complaint by the Council of the Society against a superintendent pharmacist and a company following convictions of the company and superintendent pharmacist for offences under Sections 52, 64 and 85 of the Medicines Act 1968.
M. B. PAWLUCZYK (Mrs)
Secretary to the Statutory Committee
FOLLOWING the introduction of competence-based training and assessment for preregistration programmes which commenced after June, 1993, all pharmacists intending to act as preregistration tutors are required by resolution of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Council to attend a one-day seminar about the Society's preregistration training programme. Prospective tutors should note that attendance at such a seminar is a prerequisite for the commencement of a preregistration trainee's training.
Attendance at a seminar prior to 1993 does not remove the need for attendance in 2000. Anyone who has attended a seminar since 1993 but who has not tutored a preregistration trainee in the past three years must attend another seminar before his or her trainee commences their training. Anyone who has taken over the duties of a preregistration tutor and who has not yet attended a seminar must attend the next one available.
The dates and venues for this year's summer tutor seminars are as follows: June 5, London; June 13, Manchester; June 20, London; June 28, Glasgow; July 19, London; August 3, Manchester. Anyone who needs to attend should call the Society's education division on 020 7735 9141 ext 375 for further details and a registration form.
Please note that because requirements for tutors will be changing from 2001, the Society will not be able to offer places on these seminars to anyone who will not be tutoring a trainee in the academic year 2000-01.
