Cantab Pharmaceuticals announced this week that a grant of $760,000 has been given to Yale university for development work on the UK company's anti-cocaine vaccine. The grant is from the US National Institute on Drug Abuse. A phase 2 trial with the vaccine is under way in the US in patients being treated for cocaine addiction. Cantab's vaccine is made up of a cocaine derivative coupled to a carrier protein. It is intended to generate antibodies which bind to cocaine and prevent its psychoactive effect.
