Pain awareness campaign

The Consumer Health Information Centre (CHIC) is launching a pain and pain relief awareness campaign. The aim of the campaign is to help the public manage pain more effectively by providing information about what pain is and the different types of analgesics available over-the-counter. For the campaign, CHIC has produced a pain information leaflet, for patients, in conjunction with the Doctor Patient Partnership, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the National Pharmaceutical Association and the Royal College of Nursing. The leaflet provides a guide to treating pain with over-the-counter medicines and outlines the different types of analgesics available, how best to use them and when to seek advice from a health care professional. It will be distributed through pharmacies, general practice surgeries and libraries and is available free of charge from CHIC (tel 020 74047842). It can be viewed on the CHIC website (www.chic.org.uk).
