The Hull branch gained representatives' support for its motion asking for an earlier Council response to BRM motions.
The motion, "that it is the opinion of this meeting that Council's response to motions carried at a branch representatives' meeting should be published before the following branch secretaries' meeting, at which time will be allowed for feedback and discussion, and that the Council provides periodic progress reports to the branch which proposed a particular motion", was propoed by Mr ANDREW HERSOM. He said that there was no timescale at present for the Council's response to motions. The process was slow. This motion would introduce a reasonable timescale for the Council's responses, whether interim or final.
Mr MICHAEL JEPSON (Birmingham) seconded the motion. He said that when the Council had considered the way in which a successful motion should be acted on and had reported on such in the PJ, there had been no mechanism for a progress report at reasonable intervals to the branch which had proposed the motion.
The motion was carried.

Andrew Hersom: Council response to motions is slow

Correction (PJ, May 27, 2000, p828)

This motion was in fact a joint motion from the Hull and Birmingham branches and not just a Hull motion as stated. It was proposed by Dr Andrew Hersom (Hull) and seconded by Dr Michael Jepson (Birmingham).
