Council election

Three new Council members elected

There are three new members of the Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society after this year's election. Miss Alison Ewing, Dr Nicola Gray and Mr Kirit Patel have all been elected to the Council for the first time.
Miss Ewing is director of pharmacy for the Countess of Chester NHS trust, Chester. Dr Gray is a research assistant in the Centre for Pharmacy Practice at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, and also a locum community pharmacist. Mr Patel, a community pharmacist, is chairman of the Day Lewis Group.
Four retiring members of Council were re-elected. They are Dr Gordon Appelbe (Treasurer of the Society), Mr Hassan Argomandkhah, Mr Peter Curphey (immediate past President of the Society) and Mrs Linda Stone.
The three other retiring members of Council, Mr Mark Koziol, Mr Ted Smith and Miss Joanne West, all chose not to seek re-election. Each had served one three-year term on the Council.
The nine unsuccessful candidates were Mrs Sarah Cockbill, Mr Ian Conquest, Mr Steven Curtis, Dr Brian Curwain, Mr David Kent, Mr Graham Phillips, Mr Alaster Rutherford, Mr Robert Wood and Mr Alan Woodcock.
Out of the 43,205 voting papers issued, 8,480 were returned (933 more than in 1999), of which 8,387 were valid. The percentage of voting papers returned was 19.6 per cent - the same figure as in 1999. Reproduced below is the election result sheet showing the 11 stages in the transfer of votes.
