The West Midlands Co-operative Society is to apply for a new pharmacy contract for premises from which it has only recently transferred the pharmacy to a health centre (PJ, April 15, p575).
Local residents raised a 700-name petition against the closure of the existing pharmacy because elderly people and mothers with children could not walk to the nearest community pharmacy a mile away.
Mr David Pinion (chief executive, West Midlands Co-op) said: "We realised that the doctors in the area are not served by any other pharmacy and that the residents' feelings are right. We are making an application to the heath authority to get a licence. Provided we get that we will open immediately."
