In a statement on May 22, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society said that it would consider its response to the proposal to reclassify Levonelle-2 for emergency hormonal contraception as a pharmacy medicine "in due course".
The statement said that the Society's Council had reaffirmed its policy that it was in the public interest to improve access to EHC through community pharmacies at its May meeting (PJ, May 20, p762). It agreed that this should include a POM-to-P switch and that measures should be in place to ensure that EHC was available from pharmacies free of charge for women who could not afford to pay for it.
