New indication for Fragmin

The licensed indications for Pharmacia & Upjohn's Fragmin (dalteparin sodium) injection have been extended to include the treatment of pulmonary embolism. Fragmin is therefore now additionally indicated for the treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) presenting clinically as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) or both. The recommended dosage in adults is 200iu/kg body weight and should be administered subcutaneously once daily. The single daily dose should not exceed 18,000iu. For patients with an increased risk of bleeding, a dose of 100iu/kg twice daily can be used.
