The following text is published to correct and replace the incorrect version on p11 of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's annual report for 1999, which was circulated as a supplement to The Pharmaceutical Journal of April 29.
The Society's library received a record number of inquiries during 1999 responding to over 11,000 questions. The library had over 2,000 visitors during the year and while about half of these were members there were also visits from many overseas groups.
In addition to the library's inquiries, the pharmacists in the technical information service processed almost 12,500 inquiries in the year, three-quarters of them coming from Society members.
A new information service was introduced in March. Known as RPS e-PIC, it is a bibliographic database comprising references from pharmacy and medical journals. It was made available on CD-ROM, internet and through the NHSnet and is compiled by the information pharmacists. By the end of the year it had 70 licensed users.
