Museum welcomes hundreds of visitors

Several hundred people have visited the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's museum during the first three weeks of its contribution to the London-wide String of Pearls Millennium Festival.
Since the beginning of May, more than 550 visitors have joined the twice-weekly special guided tours of the museum displays. The guided tours continue through June and July, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
In addition, an audience of 180 enjoyed the evening lecture on "The changing image of the doctor" given by Professor Roy Porter on May 17 and organised in conjunction with the British Society for the History of Pharmacy. The lecture was supported by a special exhibition of caricatures from the museum's collection, entitled "The quack doctor", which will remain in the Society's hall foyer until February, 2001.
Further visitors are expected on Saturday, June 3, for the museum's Pharmacy History Show, with a programme of hands-on demonstrations and talks (PJ, May 6, p689).
Details of museum events are available from the museum office on 020 7735 9141 ext 354.
