Complementary therapy research

The Arthritis Research Campaign (ARC) is launching an initiative to fund research into complementary medicine.
Until recently the charity has only funded conventional, drug-based research but earlier this year it granted funding for a two year clinical trial into the effects of acupuncture on patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. The charity says that the initiative has been prompted by the large numbers of arthritis sufferers who seek pain relief through non-traditional therapies.
The ARC has brought out a revised edition of its booklet on Complementary Therapies and Arthritis to coincide with Arthritis Research Week (June 4-10). It can be obtained from the ARC, St Mary's Gate, Chesterfield, Derbyshire S41 7TD.
