Emergency contraception

Accessory after the act

From Mr J. S. Clarke, FRPharmS

SIR,-The motion approved by the branch representatives' meeting (PJ, May 20, p766) that pharmacists should be able to provide emergency contraception will lead to an increase in sexual activity in the young and the lowering of moral standards.
That a pharmacist should become an accessory after the act is quite contrary to pharmaceutical ethics, and would eventually lead to the pharmacist being described as an "abortionist".
I hope that more members will write to The Journal giving their opinion on this matter so that the Council will get a broad view.
