Council election

Youthful energy

From Mr S. W. F. Holloway

SIR,-Mr Rayner (PJ, May 20, p770) seems to compound living and learning. The passage of years does not guarantee the accumulation of wisdom: the young are not necessarily inexperienced. Jacob Bell was only 30 when he became involved in the creation of the Society: he was not deterred by the fact that some considered him arrogant. William Glyn-Jones was elected to the Council a mere eight years after qualifying. Although still a young man of 30 he was not without experience. At the age of 26 he conceived the idea of resale price maintenance and set up the Proprietary Articles Trade Association to carry the idea into effect.
In more recent times, Mark Koziol was elected to the Council in his early 30s, after having set up the Young Pharmacists Group at the age of 23, Provincial Pharmacy Locum Services at 25, and the Pharmacy Insurance Agency at 29. By the age of 30, he was active in the Society's Community Pharmacists Group.
At times of rapid social change, the recently acquired experience of the young combined with their enthusiasm and dynamism can provide the basis for effective leadership.
