From Mr C. Morris, MRPharmS
SIR,-I am writing to agree wholeheartedly with Mr P. J. Taylor (PJ, May 27, p810). Why does no one see that breeding is at the heart of all our problems?
Everyone wants the right to have as many children as they want; child allowance, as it is set up at the moment, actively promotes it. If you cannot afford children then just lean on the welfare state. How many seven-children families do you know of where either of the parents is in paid work?
No one wants green fields built on. No one seems to want genetically modified food. No one wants increased pollution, global warming, etc. The list is almost endless. But everyone wants children. Everyone wants these children to have jobs, houses and food, just as long as all of this can be provided without any of the above. Am I being too naive in assuming that this sets up a simple-to-see conflict?
A serious control needs to be put on childbirth now. If we want to keep anything of our planet, hard decisions need to be made.
