The British National Formulary is to become available on the internet at bnf.org on June 26.
The new website will provide unrestricted access to the entire content of the current paper version of the BNF, with some additional sections. For example, "BNF extra" will offer such resources as a cardiac risk assessment calculator and advice on whether to treat paracetamol overdoses based on patients' plasma paracetamol concentrations. A "What's new" section will include important new developments and product news.
Professor Sir Charles George (outgoing chairman, BNF joint formulary committee) commented: "Practical and authoritative add-on sections, such as the cardiac risk assessment chart, will be of great help to time-stretched clinical practitioners. BNF Online will enable health care professionals to combine their clinical skills with the best prescribing information."
