The refurbished Morgan Tower Pharmacy, Dundee, was officially opened on June 16 by Councillor Mervyn Rolfe, local convener for economic development and a past Lord Provost of Dundee.
The pharmacy, taken over in 1997 by the Richardson family of pharmacists (John and his wife Karen, together with John's father David), is in Nethergate, beside the University of Dundee.
Care was taken to retain as many features as possible of the A-listed building during the alterations, which were carried out in consultation with Historic Scotland. Many pharmaceutical antiques are displayed in the premises and an old drawer run and counter have been incorporated into the modern fittings. Above the front shop area and dispensary is a suite of consulting rooms fitted out to accommodate several complementary practitioners, including an aromatherapist, a herbalist, two homoeopaths, a reflexologist and a chiropodist. Champissage (Indian head massage) is also available.
The Morgan Tower is one of Dundee's best known historic buildings, having been designed for Daniel Morgan by the city's first recorded resident architect in 1794.
