Mr Hemant Patel (Immediate Past President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society) has been invited by the Commonwealth Fund of New York to nominate a candidate for the 2001-02 Harkness fellowships in health care policy. The fellowships provide an opportunity for health policy researchers and practitioners from the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand to spend four to 12 months in the United States conducting a research study. The study should be relevant to health care policy and practice in both the United States and the fellow's home country. The Society has been asked to identify someone with a strong interest in health policy issues who would propose a study within one of the following areas: improving health services; bettering the health of minorities; advancing the well-being of the elderly; and developing the capacity of children and young people.
Pharmacists interested in seeking one of the fellowships should write for further information to Mr Patel, at 1 Spurgate, Hutton, Brentwood, Essex CM13 2LA by June 28.
Mr Patel will be aided in his choice of a suitable nominee by three other members of the Society's Council - Dr John Evans, Ms Alison Ewing and Professor Clare Mackie.
