The Commission for Health Improvement started its programme of regular hospital inspections on June 26.
Its first targets are National Health Service trusts at Southampton, Chesterfield, Bangor and Sunderland. Inspectors will spend a week at each trust interviewing staff and watching their work in public areas of hospitals. They will then produce reports and recommend action to address arease of concern.
