July 2 to 9 has been declared to be NHS Week. Although no date has been announced for the publication of the new national plan for the National Health Service, press statements issued by the Department on June 27 say that copies of the plan will be available to mark NHS Week. Copies can be obtained by writing to National Plan, PO Box 3040, London SW1A 2HS, or by visiting www.NHS.uk/nationalplan on the internet.
NHS Week marks the 52nd anniversary of the foundation of the NHS and will entail a number of national and regional events.
A Department spokeswoman told The Journal on June 27 that the Nye Bevan awards for achievements by health professionals would be presented at the London Arena on July 5 and that there would be an exhibition to mark scientific innovation and new treatments that had been developed in the NHS.
