A revised sixth edition of the Sheffield Protocol for the management of the
menopause and treatment of osteoporosis is now available. The new edition includes
separate guidelines for the management of the menopause, for the prevention
and treatment of osteoporosis and for the management of corticosteroid-induced
osteoporosis.
Miss Nuttan Tanna (specialist pharmacist research fellow, Northwick Park menopause
clinical and research unit, London) told The Journal that the protocol should
be a useful, informative resource for all pharmacists. Care of the elderly had
been identified as a nationally prioritised health improvement program so osteoporosis
was a therapeutic area that many primary care groups would be focusing on.
Copies of the Sheffield protocol can be obtained by sending a cheque for £2, payable to Osteoporosis 2000, to Osteoporosis 2000, 47 Wilkinson Street, Sheffield S10 2GB.
