From Mrs C. A. Jordan, MRPharmS
SIR,-I read with interest that the National Pharmaceutical Association board has expressed concern over the reclassification of levonorgestrel because it will not allow supply to girls aged under 16 years (PJ, July 8, p41). Could the same concern be expressed for nicotine replacement products which are currently not recommended for children under 18 years even though it is legal to purchase cigarettes from the age of 16 years.
If the age limit for levonorgestrel is reduced, we will end up in a situation where it is legal to supply emergency hormonal contraception for an illegal act yet illegal to supply nicotine replacement therapy for a legal act.
