Miss Molly Stevens, MRPharmS, has been awarded the 2000 Ronald Belcher memorial lectureship by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The award is given to students who have made an outstanding contribution to analytical chemistry. Miss Stevens is studying for a doctor of philosophy degree at the University of Nottingham's school of pharmaceutical sciences. Her work has involved measuring single molecule interactions and she has demonstrated that the forces involved in molecular recognition can be measured by an atomic force microscope. The work has implications in the understanding of the structure and function of proteins.

Professor Malcolm Stevens, MRPharmS, has been awarded the 2000 George and Christine Sosnovsky award in cancer therapy by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The award is accompanied by an honorarium of $5,000 and will involve Professor Stevens in making a series of lectures. Professor Stevens is Cancer Research Campaign professor of cancer therapeutics and director of the cancer research laboratories at the University of Nottingham. He is the uncle of Miss Molly Stevens (above).
