Social programme

The social programme at this year's conference begins on the Saturday evening with the traditional informal welcome reception. Free of charge for all who register for the conference, it will take place in the International Convention Centre and there will be a hot buffet with wine.
On the Monday evening, a traditional formal conference banquet will take place at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, where participants will enjoy a four-course meal with wine. The principal after-dinner speaker will be Dr Ian Banks (chairman of the Men's Health Forum and a spokesman on men's health for the British Medical Association).
Birmingham's Sea Life Centre is to be the venue for an evening event on the Tuesday. The informal evening will include a hot fork buffet and the opportunity to view the marine life.
Those who do not wish to take part in the organised evening events can find many opportunities for meals and entertainment in Birmingham's Broad Street, Brindley Place and beyond before heading for this year's conference club.
A novel feature of this year's conference takes place at lunchtime on the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, when the Loud Mouth Theatre Company performs a theatrical presentation, "The colour of community", which relates to topics in the afternoon programme on the same day.
