Wal-Mart opens UK store

Wal-Mart opened its first United Kingdom superstore under its own name on July 24. The 93,000 sq ft store is located at Patchway, Bristol, in an expanded Asda store. Wal-Mart acquired Asda last year for £6.72bn.
Mr Jeremy Armes (pharmacy buyer, Asda) told The Journal on July 25 that the superstore contained a pharmacy run as a concession by Moss Pharmacy. During the superstore's refurbishment, the pharmacy had been moved to a more central location and refitted to a design specified by Asda and approved by Moss. The pharmacy was stocked and staffed by Moss independently of Asda, Mr Armes said.
