Society congratulates Queen Mother on her 100th birthday

The President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (Mrs Christine Glover) has sent a message to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother offering the Society's congratulations and good wishes on the occasion of her 100th birthday on August 4.
The Queen Mother's main personal link with the Society is that she carried out the official opening of the Lambeth headquarters building in February, 1977.
The President's letter reads as follows: "On behalf of the membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, I would like to extend to Your Majesty congratulations on your one hundredth birthday.
"You have a special place in the Society's history, having officially opened our Lambeth headquarters in 1977, and many of our members remember that very enjoyable occasion. Please accept our good wishes for this very special day."

In reply, the President has received telemessage from the Queen Mother's private secretary. It reads: "Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother much appreciated your kind message on her 100th birthday and sends her very sincere thanks to you and to all those who joined in these good wishes."
Other royal links for the Society date back to 1843, when Queen Victoria granted the Society its first Royal Charter only two years after its formation. Royal patronage was first granted to the Society by King George VI in 1935 and has been continued by the present Queen, who also granted the title "royal" to the Society in 1988. In 1955, Prince Philip became the first honorary fellow of the Society.
