From Mr R. I. Dunkley, MRPharmS
SIR,-I wonder how far we have to go to please the general public at our own expense? In my opinion, people expect us to provide services that go beyond our actual National Health Service terms of service for free.
One example: should we collect prescriptions from general practitioners who have their practice perhaps three to five miles away, dispense them into Medidose containers and deliver them to the patient for free?
I had such an incident recently, and related it to the members of my Rotary club (just the general outline, to preserve confidentiality). The lawyers and accountants fell about laughing - so much so that they had to be revived with spirits. "You did not ask a fee?" was their comment.
How many pharmacists really would ask a fee? I am very confused.
