NHS smoking cessation success

In their first year, the new National Health Service smoking cessation services - set up in health action zones in England have helped nearly 6,000 people to give up smoking, says the Department of Health.
According to figures published on August 7, of 14,600 people who set a date to quit smoking, 39 per cent had still given up a month later. Over 9,000 people who set a date to give up received free nicotine replacement therapy or NRT vouchers. The Department describes the results as "encouraging".
