About people

Mr William Darling, FRPharmS, has been appointed a deputy lieutenant for the county of Tyne and Wear. The role involves representing the Lord-Lieutenant at functions he is unable to attend. As the sovereign's permanent local representative, the Lord-Lieutenant is responsible for all aspects of royal visits to the county and acts on behalf of the Queen on county occasions and in presenting certain medals and awards. Deputy lieutenants are appointed from among people who have rendered particular service to the county in various fields. Mr Darling's service within the county includes chairmanship of Gateshead and South Tyneside health authority and of the board of governors of the University of Sunderland. Mr Darling, a community pharmacist, is a Council member and past President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Mr Marshall Davies, FRPharmS, has been appointed by the Secretary of State for Health as a non-executive director of the Newark and Sherwood primary care trust, with immediate effect. Mr Davies is Vice-President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and former chief superintendent pharmacist of Boots the Chemists Ltd.
