From Mr A. G. M. Madge, FRPharmS
SIR,-The Pharmaceutical Journal is a world leader in the field of pharmacy and is respected as such. That is why the decisions of the Council on the new editor and his position are not only important to pharmacy but to every pharmacist.
The first prerogative must be that the editor is a pharmacist. To do otherwise reduces The Journal to that of any bookshelf warmer. The long line of distinguished editors have always maintained editorial freedom. While recognising the PJ is a mouthpiece in many matters of the Council, it is not a lackey. Editorial freedom must be preserved.
We all wish the PJ a great future, nationally and internationally, and pay our respects to you and your predecessors who have raised and nurtured "our Journal" to its present position.
