From Mr M. Crane, MRPharmS
SIR,-You report that Rodney Ledward, the struck off gynaecologist who is also a pharmacist, is to be referred to the Statutory Committee (PJ, August 12, p232). As Mr Ledward has not been convicted of a criminal offence, the Statutory Committee can only be invoked on the grounds of professional misconduct as a pharmacist. The decision and evidence should be made public and I hope that the Statutory Committee will not be stampeded into having a hearing at the earliest opportunity but will give this very important matter the mature and careful consideration that has been their hallmark in the past.
I understand that Mr Ledward is residing in the Republic of Ireland, having reciprocally registered as a pharmacist of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland. It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on any proceedings.
