About people

Dr Christine Bond, MRPharmS, has been appointed to a personal chair in primary care pharmacy in the University of Aberdeen's department of general practice and primary care, as from October 1. Dr Bond says that her academic research and teaching interests complement her part-time secondment to Grampian health board as a consultant in pharmaceutical public health and her position on the Scottish Executive of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Dr Guy Jepson, MRPharmS, has been awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne for a thesis entitled "An investigation of the influence of a European formulary on general practitioner prescribing as part of an educational intervention". His research, undertaken in the department of primary health care of the university's medical school, involved monitoring the prescribing of GPs in a number of European Union countries before and after the introduction of the formulary and an educational intervention.

Mr Tony Furber, FRPharmS, has been awarded a Paul Harris fellowship by Rotary International. The award recognises Mr Furber's contribution to the activities of the Rotary Foundation, a major Rotary charity, and to "significant assistance for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world". Mr Furber is a past president of the Rotary Club of Hallam.
